India is currently going through a lot of climatic issues resultant of global warming. Air pollution is the major factor for this.
India is a country where automobile industry is on rise, or rather, you can say that more and more people are buying cars everyday in India.
If you look at the figures closely, you can see that 4.4 million passenger cars and commercial vehicles have been sold in India from 2005 to 2018, which is supposed to be a huge figure. Eventually, more sales result in more cars on road, thus increasing the pollution levels drastically.
At this point of time, what can help in reducing these levels without actually affecting the buyers is bringing in the Electric Vehicles in Indian market. People in India have yet not accepted the Electric Vehicles because of some perceptions they hold regarding this segment of Vehicles.
Regardless of all these drawbacks, MG is prepared to set its yet another benchmark in Indian market. We have not yet got over from appreciating its first SUV MG HECTOR, which it had launched in JUNE 2019, and here it is with its another piece of Art- the MG ZS, which is supposed to be an Electric Vehicle.
Now, before discussing about its fervent design, let me mention its specs in short.
So, the MG ZS is going to come with 44.5 kWh water-cooled, lithium ion battery. The battery system used in this particular vehicle is IP67 certified which is supposed to be water and dust-proof as per the certification.
MG ZS will be seen sharing its specifications and design with the one being sold in UK.
Now, this 44.5 kWh battery powered motor is supposed to deliver 141 bhp and 353 Nm of peak torque.
The quoted charging time to charge the vehicle using a 7 kW charger is 6.5 hours that will deliver you with a range of 372 km in city drive, which is quite impressive. The company is going to provide this 7 kW charger as standard with all the ZS EV cars.
If you are a busy person with tight schedules then another option with you to charge the vehicle is with 50 kW DC charger, which will juice up the battery to 80 percent within 40 minutes.
So, now as we always do, let’s have a look at its beguiling front.

MG ZS will surely remind you of The Hector, but it does not look so intrepid as The Hector, because after all it’s a prototype.
On the other hand, it also doesn’t look like an EV.

The DRLs in the MG ZV are totally different from the Hector, but I personally find it quite resembling with the Range Rover Discovery. The DRLs are beautifully designed to give it a bold up front.
You also get a projector setup in the headlamp making it look much eager to conquer the roads.
The front grill has been given chrome stud design which you commonly find in the Mercedes cars. But this isn’t just a normal grill like any other cars. This grill hides in itself something very important or you can say inside the grill lies the heart of this ZS EV.
Ok! Instead of getting overdramatic, let me tell you that behind the beautiful logo of MG there exists the charging point of this power packed machine. You have to just lift the logo up and you can connect your charger over there to charge it up.
MG considers ZS EV into compact SUV segment

But, when you move to its side posture, you realize that it is more of a cross-over rather than a compact SUV. The body cladding runs all over the wheel arches, front bumper as well as the rear bumper, giving it a look of cross-over.
The car has been hinged on 17 inch diamond cut alloy wheels. Even after the size being perfect for a cross-over car it looks a bit undersized as such.
There is nothing much to talk about the rear end of the car. Its high profile manages to make the car look great on road and makes it easy to maneuver through the bumpy city roads.
The tail lamps are totally finished in LED which leaves the exterior with no draw backs or weird looks and gives the car altogether a uniform exterior look.
Now moving to the interior of the car
Having a look at the interior, it seems MG is not in a mood to afford any kind of risk by disappointing the few EV buyers. In fact, it wants to attract more and more buyers towards the world of Electric Vehicles.
The dashboard seems perfectly contoured with the mixed touch of hard plastic, soft leather and silver outlining around the AC vents. But the interior and dashboard elements have been almost copied from the partner of MG in China that is our very own Volkswagen.
The power window control panel on the door panels, sun-roof switch and many other elements are taken from the Volkswagen cars.
It gets 8 inch touch screen infotainment system which comes with android auto, apple car play and also which MG calls as smart connectivity. This smart connectivity system was first introduced by MG in Hector. We are still not sure whether MG will be bringing this smart play in MG ZS EV but we really wish it updates the model with it before launching it in India.
MG ZS EV has got a prodigious sunroof which adds to its already spacious cabin.
This massive panoramic sunroof comes as a standard feature in MG ZS EV which is really a nice touch by MG.
MG ZS EV is going to compete with Hyundai Kona, also supposed to be an Electric Vehicle by Hyundai in the same segment; therefore, MG needs to be very cautious in factors which are considered for comparison between the two cars.
The rear seating space of MG ZS EV is more spacious as compared to the Hyundai Kona and so MG marked its ZS EV safe in this comparison with its competitor.
When it comes to safety, MG has cleverly assured the safety of its customers as well as the car.
MG ZS EV is equipped with 6 airbags, Hill Descent Control (HDC), Hill Start Assist (HSA), ABS, ESP, and MG has also secured its car with safety cage for its EV battery to prevent its batteries from any sort of physical damage, thus increasing the life of the car.
MG is initially planning to launch the car in 5 cities in India including Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
MG has also priced its car very competitively; the MG ZS EV is expected to come with a price tag of around 25 lakhs in India. The launch is expected to be in January 2020, but MG is trying to start its bookings from December 2019 itself.
So basically, people who are planning to enter the world of EV should surely get their hands on MG ZS EV, as it is a practical EV SUV in Indian market at present.
Fingers crossed and wishing MG a successful launch for its MG ZS EV.
